Omicron (B. 1 . 1.529), a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 has been announced as a variant of concern by WHO recently, due to its suspected high transmission owing to several mutations. It was first reported in South Africa on 24 November 2021 and according to the latest news, Omicron cases in South Africa are constantly increasing.
